European Microfinance Week 2020 goes online!

Aldo Moauro, Ayako Iba and Ben Wallingford will participate in the 2020 edition of the European Microfinance Week during November 18-20.

On Friday November 20th 11:00 – 12:00, Ayako, Regional Manger for Europe, will be a panellist in the working session Savings metrics & reporting: capturing the effectiveness of deposit accounts. This session will cover what data is currently available to understand the real usage of deposit accounts, and what sector initiatives can improve this.
On Friday November 20th 11:00 – 11:45, Ben, Regional Manager for Anglophone Africa, will be a panellist in the session Digital credit beyond consumer finance. At this session, three experienced practitioners will debate and bring their prospective and direct field experience to address the current industry challenges and present their view for the way forward. If digital credit solutions and technology are just evolved tools to the reach financially excluded and vulnerable clients, how much do product features matter in creating value for under-served and marginalised customers? Which role customer centricity and client protection can play in a fast evolving, and often debated, market? Is there something more digital credit can bring to inclusive finance ecosystem to further reinforce its outreach and overcome the current challenges of the industry?
On Friday November 20th 13:45 – 14:45, Aldo, MFR CEO, will participate in the plenary session Client Protection in a post-Smart sector. With Covid-19 raging and the world going through what seem like era-ending changes, a major milestone in the sector was the winding up of the Smart Campaign, which made client protection a byword for socially-oriented financial institutions. What does the Campaign’s closure mean for client protection? Are its principles so embedded now that it has served its purpose? What does it mean for the 100+ organizations who have attained its coveted Client Protection Certification? Where does the sector go from here – forwards or backwards? The session will feature leading organizations that have made client protection a core of their work, including the rating agency MFR, the Social Performance Task Force, and two financial providers who in different ways have both made client protection a core objective.
