Job Description
MFR is seeking a Business Development Officer – Central Asia to drive regional growth and strengthen our presence across Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia.
Joining our dynamic and international team of financial inclusion experts, the Business Development Officer will report directly to the Business Development Director and play a key role in expanding MFR’s reach within one of our strategically regions.
This role offers a unique opportunity to shape regional strategy, build meaningful relationships with key stakeholders, and contribute directly to MFR’s mission of generating independent opinions for the sustainable finance industry, based on verified information, to foster responsible investments..
Tasks and Responsibilities
Regional Strategy & Business Development
- Contribute to the definition and execution of the regional business development strategy, in line with MFR’s global goals.
- Contribute to the definition and execution of the regional annual budget.
- Identify and concretize new business opportunities, including service expansion, client acquisition, and strategic partnerships.
- Ensure timely and high-quality preparation of technical and financial proposals.
- Monitor tender platforms and donor opportunities, assess relevance, and coordinate proposal preparation.
- Follow up with prospective clients from first contact to contract signature, ensuring continuity and effective communication throughout the process.
External Relations & Representation
- Maintain and expand relationships with regional stakeholders in inclusive and sustainable finance, including financial institutions, networks, investors, donors, and regulators.
- Represent MFR in regional events, webinars, and working groups, including as speaker when appropriate.
Coordination & Reporting
- Collaborate with the Business Development Director on market research and business intelligence to inform strategic decision-making.
- Coordinate with the Operations Director on planning and resource allocation to ensure alignment between business development and delivery capacity.
- Contribute to internal reporting on business development pipeline and outreach efforts through the CRM.
Required qualifications
- University degree in economics, finance, international relations, development studies or related field.
- Between 5 to 10 years of experience in business development, ideally in the development finance, sustainability, impact sector, with proven experience in sales of assessment/rating/evaluation services.
- Proven track record in originating opportunities and converting leads into sales.
- Strong understanding of financial institutions (MFIs, NBFIs, banks), financial analysis and financial risk analysis.
- A strong and proven professional network in the Central Asia financial inclusion or development finance and regulated financial sector ecosystem.
- Experience in proposal writing and tender coordination (multilateral donors, foundations, development finance).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders and time zones.
- Self-driven, with ability to work independently and as part of a multicultural team.
Desirable qualifications:
- Fluency in Russian.
- Proven track record selling Credit Ratings and related products.
- Familiarity with social performance, ESG, or impact investing is a strong advantage, with the ability to position. and cross-sell related products (e.g. Social & Environmental Ratings, ESG Assessments).
